Privacy Policy
Your privacy is hugely important to me, and I guarantee that there will be nothing nefarious or underhand going on with any personal data I receive from you. Let’s break it down so you can see the whats, wheres, whys and hows of your personal data storage with Jackdaw Editorial.
This policy is effective from 15/6/18, but may be updated from time to time as my services develop, so if privacy policies float your boat, then check back here regularly.
WHAT INFORMATION DO I COLLECT AND WHERE IS IT STORED?
I like to keep things pretty simple round here. If you’re a client of mine, I will collect and store the necessary information in order to complete the work you require of me. This includes your name, email address, business name, website and social information and sometimes, but not always, phone number. This data is stored within Gmail and Google Drive, the passwords for which are updated regularly.
For customers of the Jackdaw Editorial site shop, I’ll collect the information necessary in order to be able to deliver your product. This includes your name, email address, phone number, billing and delivery address and partial payment information. (Payments to the shop are made via PayPal, and PayPal will collect and store your full card details in order to process the payment. Please refer to PayPal’s dedicated privacy policy for full details on how your information is stored by this facility.)
If you’re just browsing the site, I may collect your IP address and information regarding your location and the pages you’ve visited on the site. This data is collected and stored in Google Analytics.
WHY DO I NEED IT?
For clients of mine: Simply put, I need this information in order to contact you regarding your copywriting or bespoke poetry service.
For shop customers: I need this data in order to process and deliver the product you’ve purchased from me.
For site users: I need this data to analyse my web traffic and see how I can improve the user experience of my website.
WHAT DO I DO WITH IT?
Honestly? Very little, other than use it to contact you directly and discuss the job in hand, or to deliver the product you’ve chosen to purchase from the shop.
Under no circumstances will your data ever be sold or rented to a third party.
I may share your data in the following circumstances:
- to service providers and affiliates (e.g postal services, IT service administrators) who assist in the delivery of my products and services
- to third parties if I believe that disclosure is advisable or necessary to comply with the law, to enforce or apply my terms and conditions, or to protect the rights, property or safety of myself and others.
You of course have the right to request access to the data I hold about you. Please send me an email if this is the case. Equally, if you believe the data I hold about you is incorrect or out of date, then please contact me so I can correct this.
HOW LONG DO I HANG ON TO YOUR DATA?
I am required under UK tax law to keep your basic personal data (name and contact details) for a minimum of 6 years. After this point your data will be kept until you notify me otherwise. Remember that you do have the right to be forgotten, so please contact me if you would like your data to be destroyed.
THIRD PARTY LINKS
On occasion I may include links to third parties. Where I provide a link it does not mean that I endorse or approve that site’s notice towards visitor privacy. You should review their privacy notice before sending them any personal data.
USE OF COOKIES
It will no doubt shock you that for once I am not talking about a delicious baked good here. These (much more boring) cookies provide information regarding the computer used by a visitor. The Jackdaw Editorial site may use cookies where appropriate to gather information about your computer in order to assist me in improving the website and to tailor your browsing experience.
Where used, these small cookies are downloaded to your computer and stored on the computer’s hard drive. Such information will never identify you personally and will not be visible to me; it is purely statistical data which does not identify any personal details whatsoever. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. Please be aware that this may prevent you from taking full advantage of the website.
YOUR RIGHTS
If at any point you believe the information I process on you is incorrect, you can request to see this information and even have it corrected or deleted.
If you wish to raise a complaint on how I have handled your personal data, you can contact me directly and I will investigate the matter. If you are not satisfied with my response or believe I am processing your personal data not in accordance with the law you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
